Nothing To Envy- Barbara Demick

I was sitting on my bed browsing the internet when I looked up and felt almost ashamed of not having written anything about this book earlier.
I picked this book up on a whim about a year or so ago at Waterstones as there was an offer on and I needed one more book to make it apply. I couldn't find another book I specifically wanted so I just read the back of this and decided to give it a go. It's probably the best impulse buy I've ever made.
This book was such an eye opener into Kim Il-sung's and Kim Jong-il's reign. The book follows the lives of ordinary people and recounts their experiences at the time. The most shocking part of the book for me was about the North Korean famine that occurred from 1994 to 1998. It was truly horrific hearing about what these people had to go through.
This book is amazing. I found it so informative and gripping. Sometimes it was hard to remember that the events that happened, actually happened to real people. I'd definitely recommend giving it a read.

Things arrived!

Mimmi singlet in whipped mint from Monki- £4
Colours- whipped mint, mellow me yellow, candy tongue
The top is lovely however for me, I find it's a little low under the arms and my bra strap shows. It's a lovely colour though so if you like it and you are concious of this you could easily wear a bandeau underneath or something.

Almira bag maps from Monki- £6
I really like this bag. The map pattern on it is beautiful. I'm really glad I bought it. It's really spacious too so  it would quite comfortably accommodate my books and folders. I am a bit weary of using it at college though because it's so nice and I don't want it to get ruined!

Coconut body butter from The Body Shop- £13.00 (I purchased it for £8.45 on sale)
This body butter smells amazing however I haven't had a chance to use it. I have lots of Soap and Glory body butter that I got earlier this year and I was going to wait until it was finished but I think I'll give it a sneaky try and perhaps post a review.

Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs

Hello all.
Yesterday I went to see Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs live.
It was at Rock City and it's the first time I've actually been there so I was surprised by the size of the venue (I thought it was quite small). Me and my boyfriend were the first ones in so we got a good view!
The support was a lovely guy called Roosevelt who was really good. I hadn't heard much of his stuff but I was really impressed and will definitely listen to him more. This is his song called Sea. It might not be everyone's cup of tea but I really like it. In my opinion however, he's better live than in studio.
Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs was great. It was a really upbeat gig. There were two dancers that came on stage for some songs who were fab. There was a lot of confetti being shot around which really got us all going and towards the end they threw a blow up dinosaur into the crowd!
Overall it was a great gig and I had a wonderful time although my knees are worse for wear!

Holiday

Hello all. I just wanted to share a few snaps from my holiday in Majorca earlier this year. It was a beautiful place. I think my favourite place was a cove we found while trekking. There was no one else there and it was beautiful. You can see it in the left hand picture on the penultimate row. There's a few more photos on my flickr if you're interested!

My life at the moment

I've not really been sure about what to post recently so I thought I'd just do a load of pictures summarising my life at this moment in time. Considering I don't have photoshop I'm pretty pleased with this!

  1. I'm doing a lot of revision recently (thanks A-levels) so I've given different days different priorities. Today is my "maths day", which includes a lot of mechanics revision as I have the exam in January. Hooray.
  2. Again, more maths. I've not started C4 at the moment so it's just C3. I'm also doing a C1 retake in January so I'm trying to revise that too.
  3. I ordered this top from Monki the other day and I'm really excited for it to get here. It was on sale and only cost me £4!
  4. I ordered this bag from Monki as well. This cost £6 but was not on sale. It was all good until I saw how much the postage and packaging was (£6!). I bought them both anyway though because they're both lovely and a bag and top from town would probably cost more than £16.
  5. UCAS- ugh. My tutor submitted my application recently and I wasn't aware until I got an email from UCAS telling me that they had it. Luckily there was nothing I wanted to change on it. I know that Leicester currently have my application and are considering it but I don't know about any of the others yet! It's all pretty terrifying.
  6. I know everyone and their mother has velvet clothes at the moment but I love this velvet skirt from Topshop and really want it. Maybe it'll be mine once I get some more money.
  7. I thought these raccoon gloves from Accessorize were really cute and would quite like them for the winter. It's getting cooler and cooler outside. I can't be doing with waking up while it's still dark either, it's so demotivating!
  8. This lovely lad is Orlando Higginbottom a.k.a Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and I have the pleasure of seeing him live on Tuesday! I'm so excited!
  9. This is a really nice, basic skirt from River Island  which would go well with quite a few of my tops and jumpers. Hopefully I can get my hands on it soon!
  10. I ordered this coconut body butter a couple of days ago from The Body Shop and I'm eagerly anticipating using it.
So that's me at the moment! I doubt I have any readers but feel free to comment with what you're up to recently. Is there anything you've got your eye on for this winter?
Thanks for reading!x

Seaweed!

So I'm still getting to grips with this so I thought I'd do a second post on some seaweed products I recently bought from The Body Shop and am really happy with!

Tada!
I was using some of their tea tree products before these (the Tea Tree Skin Clearing Toner and the Tea Tree Skin Clearing Facial Wash). Those were really good and did make a small difference but I didn't think they were really what I needed for my skin type (combination). I went onto The Body Shop website and used their online skin diagnostic tool and it recommended trying the seaweed range. I thought there's no harm in giving them a go and they really are great!
Seaweed Deep Cleansing Facial Wash
I use this every evening before bed. In my opinion I do feel that my face looks less shiny after I've used it. This isn't too useful before bed because obviously no one will see me when I'm asleep however it does also remove any make up my make up wipes may have missed and smells lovely! Not to mention my face feels nice and fresh before bed.
Seaweed Clarifying Toner
I use this in the mornings before I put my make up on. I just pour some onto a cotton pad and wipe it around my face and neck. As it says on the bottle it is really refreshing, especially when you feel groggy in the morning. It does clear my skin quite effectively and makes me feel nice and fresh. I usually wear foundation  to mattify my skin rather than to cover up spots as I have a fairly good complexion, but I haven't really felt the need to use foundation so much since using these products!
Seaweed Ionic Clay Mask
I aim to use this once a week. The tub says that you can use it up to twice a week however I was told in the shop by a worker that this can sometimes make your face more oily due to an excess of chemicals. The clay mask is a greyish colour and has quite a thick consistency. When you put it on your face it does harden so I have to confine myself to my room and not talk to anyone for 10 minutes or so. When I wash it off, my skin does feel a lot nicer. It feels fresh and clean and it does look less shiny.

I really like these products and recommend them to anyone with oily/combination skin. They work really well for me however take what I've said with a pinch of salt because obviously it will vary from person to person. I love The Body Shop in general. All of their products seem to be of a high quality and they believe in some really good causes. I've ordered some Coconut Body Butter from there today and I'm really excited to use it!
I'll let you know what I think.

Hi, hello
The photo above is me and this is a new blog so I thought that I would introduce myself to all of my zero readers!
Anyway, my name is Aleesha Patel. My friends all call me Leesh so if my name is mentioned on here it will probably be as that. I'm 17 years old at the moment and I am at college studying my A-levels. I study biology, maths and physics and am also doing an EPQ (big, long, horrid essay). I want to go to university next year and study mechanical engineering (fun!). I have a boyfriend called Sam and a pet snake called Fanta, both are lovely beings.
You'll probably gather more about my personality as this blog progresses (or maybe not if I get frustrated and delete it like I did the last one).
That's all I think! Let me know if you want to know more.
